Using excess BF for gainz?

Can you use your excess BF to make gains? For instance,I'm 14-15%BF.Can I just eat at maintenance with no surplus calories & still make good gains on cycle while losing BF?
One of the other senior members here suggested it in another one of my threads about cycles.I think it was buen.I know you can't turn fat into muscle but can you use that excess fat to your advantage. The thing is I want to bulk but I don't want to add ANY fat.It takes me so long to lose fat, because I used to be a fat guy & all the fat cells are still there.

47yo
5'8
194lbs
14-15%BF
TRT for 7 years (150mgs TestC a wk @ 75mgs twice a week)
Training my whole life with a few years off from injuries & surgeries
My maintenance calories are 2300-2400 right now (pr260,carb180,fat50-60)
First real(safe) cycle

I have had no luck with it...I just get skinny fat

I don't think that would happen to me cause I already have a decent amount of muscle mass.I'm just wondering if I can actually use my fat to bulk instead of eating a surplus of calories.I'd like to keep burning fat while adding some more mass.I guess that would be considered a recomp.

Ummmm no bro, not even remotely close to accurate. Closer to the opposite actually. It's a proven fact that it's harder to gain muscle at an elevated bodyfat than if you are. Also the leaner you are, the easier it is to stay lean and metabolize fat. Eating at maintenance while at 15% bodyfat will just leave you spinning your wheels....basically staying the same bodyfat and gaining little to no muscle

Would a 300 calorie surplus help me make decent gains?I don't want to overdue it.I'd like to keep my total calories well under 3000.Just scared of putting on fat. Thanks Rick

So what do you recommend?
Keep cutting down to say 12% and add a surplus of 200-300 over maintenance to gain mass?
Or go ahead and eat 200-300 OVER maintenance to gain mass and then cut later?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: No.

Caloric deficit = loss of tissue (muscle or fat or both).

Caloric surplus = gain of tissue (muscle or fat or both).

Maintenance = no true thing. You cannot eat EXACTLY the same amount of calories your body burns at every moment during every day. There will be slight periods of overfeeding and slight periods of under eating. This can in theory cause a recomp effect. However, I haven't seen any evidence of a good, true recomp when on moderate amounts of gear or without the use of gear. That doesn't mean it cannot happen, it is just highly unlikely.

Okay thanks Testdude,So do you think a 300 calorie surplus would be a good medium to put on some LBM on a bulking cycle?

I wouldn't eat in a surplus if you're 15% bf. You really have two options. 1. Recomp, eat closer to your estimated maintenance. or 2. Focus on dropping more bf by creating a deficit. I know we all have our goals and it sounds like you really want to add more quality mass. Like what Rick was saying it's easier to add muscle and allow your body to metabolize fat when you're leaner so cutting further to around 10-12% at least, then adding in more calories, and using cardio/training to further control fat gain would be a better case scenario on putting on size than eating in a surplus now at 15% bf. Just my thoughts bro.
