I wanted to share a little story with you guys of what I've been going through at my gym the last couple days. My gym is a nice place with decent equipment. It's a private gym, only available for employees and their families of where I work and is completely free. Over the last year they have gone through a lot of improvements and renovations, and just 10 days ago finally got the weight room done and all the equipment moved back in. It has brand new flooring, mirrors, drywall, everything.

So yesterday, I was doing flat DB bench presses. I warmed up a couple sets like normal, and then started my working set with the 130lb DBs. I had a good set and got them for 9 (rest 20 seconds) then 3 (rest 20 seconds) then 2 as part of my rest paused set to failure in my DC training. As some of you know, at the end of the set, it can be difficult getting those DBs down without dropping them a little. So, at the end of my set I set them on my chest, extended my arms as close to the floor as I could and released them about 6 inches off the floor.

After that, the owner had a conversation with me about dropping the weights on the floor, and I expressed my concern to her that there was no way to set those down without risking injury in the position I was in, without a spotter to take them.

I had a conversation with her earlier in my session about acquiring some new equipment that I thought was beneficial. I asked about getting some hammer strength equipment. Her reply was "This is not a power gym, this is a wellness center. We don't need things like that here. The last thing we need is muscled up meatheads in here. It's already been mentioned to me that you are intimidating to some people in here, and that's not the environment we want to provide" WHAT? Seriously? Intimidating? That couldn't be farther from the truth, and all I've done is positive things for that place, helping, supporting, and motivating people left and right. I told her if she turned that place into Planet Fucking Fitness I was out of there..

So I go in this morning for cardio, and ALL of the heavy DBs are fucking gone!! Anything over 90lbs was taken! In its place at the empty DB rack was a sign that read "Due to damage to our new floor from dropping DBs, these have been removed. Thank you for understanding"

So, that was the last straw for me. Time to go to a REAL gym and pay for a membership. Luckily I have one about a mile from my house where ChickRock works out that I'll probably be going to

Im not going to comment on what I am going to call her... I will discuss that with you in private... probably not appropriate for the forum :D

That is fucking absurd man... However, let's be realistic here... That is the type of shit you get with someone running something such as a "wellness center" They have NO clue what they are doing, got put into a power position with minimal pay so the only thing that gets them off is the sense of a little authority especially over someone they consider "intimidating" etc... I completely understand you utilizing it but its not the place for you bro... you need to be in a real gym so get out of there and get where you belong... :D

I LOVE my gym here so much and i have lifted all over the world... I ve lifted in some sick gyms in Italy and Europe, some of the best in California, even at the famed Venice Beach but here, its something else but its because of all the athletes here that compete... So many pros, Mr. Olympias etc all over the place so basically anything goes and its one of the biggest facilites in the United States period... The beauty of this, $144 for the entire year... My VIP locker was double that for the year, LOL... Not only extremely cost effective but we have 10 different types of every machine on top of all the cardio, classes, pools, hot tubs, etc... even a huge track on the top level... its a fucking monster and they are ALL over the city... look up Las Vegas Athletic Club and you'll see what I mean...
I gave him a good clear piece of my mind about her in private as well lol even offered my plate throwing services ha ha I'm hot headed at times. Not gonna lie. Blame it on the douchebag exes. That's totally not right that she did that. Btw... I'm totally sneaking into Ricks suitcase when he flies out there. Don't mind me. Y'all won't even know I'm there...I'll be in my corner at the gym lol

fuk em.

I belong to two gyms.

1 is like that, but its 1 24hr place with a key card. I just planned to workout there for the winter because its 1 mile from my house and my other gym is 12.

but like what your going threw.......I have the same. Im planning on cancelling this month. fuk em, let em have the people who join for 2 months and quit 1 month later.
I hear ya. I make the best of it, and its actually a great facility with a lot of nice equipment. It's their stance on those of us that are above average in strength and muscle mass that is the issue

i get shit now and then about weights.....the 105's/110's/& up. but fuk em. You need a new spot man.

Yep,I think so bro. There was even talk today that they are "discussing" which movements will not be allowed, targeting things like deadlifts. Time to move on....

if you can do deadlifts, fuk em. leave that same day and join the place across the street.

This is absolutely ridiculous and pisses me off to know end when gyms are like this. Something similar hapend to me a month ago when I was dead lifting. I like pushing heavy fucking weights and if a gym can't accept that then it's not the gym for me. If you're ever in Ohio you can come hit some iron at my place.

That's not a gym...that's a wellness center. Those places aren't for people who genuinely care about their overall health. Those are for people who want to go and walk on a treadmill for an hour and then go eat a box of donuts for breakfast and fast food for lunch.

I'm in the process of looking into a new home. I did deadlifts this morning and worked my way up to 495. I even put mats down on each end of the bar for the weights to rest on, and still got "talked to" about the noise. She also said these may be banned movements soon. So yeh they are turning into Planet fitness all the way around

So, that was the last straw for me. Time to go to a REAL gym and pay for a membership. Luckily I have one about a mile from my house where ChickRock works out that I'll probably be going to
This is absolutely ridiculous and pisses me off to know end when gyms are like this. Something similar hapend to me a month ago when I was dead lifting. I like pushing heavy fucking weights and if a gym can't accept that then it's not the gym for me. If you're ever in Ohio you can come hit some iron at my place.
