Lol, that's crazy I don't think I'd drive forty miles once for a cheat meal let alone every week.

cottage cheese is another one to keep your eye on as a sodium killer... it is LOADED with sodium so keep an eye on that

Why the hate on sodium? I've read more and more that most lifters are under in sodium. For every liter of water you drink you need about 2 grams of sodium. Any pro will tell you season up!! People will get water retention AT FIRST. but in the end will look harder and better from a higher sodium diet.

I agree with you to an extent, but sodium is still something that needs watched. My sodium is never low. I can assure you that lol. Some days it's higher than others, but I know where my sweet spot is in the way I look and what it takes to dial that in. A little sodium can help you look fuller and more vascular. It also contributes to pumps, but too much more than what your normal intake is will bloat you like a fish, on top of just being extremely unhealthy that can cause higher blood pressure, etc.

It is definitely important to have proper electrolyte balance which also includes the right amount of potassium and water intake. That's where more people are lacking and not sodium. This will also help prevent cramps in the gym

The leanest and best I ever looked was around 20000mg sodium a day. Def don't recommend that but it worked for me didn't hold any water either. The more sodium I take the harder better pumps I get. I also read there's not lots of side effects of it unless it's hereditary not sure about that though

thats great the worked for you bro and there is no hate on sodium whatsoever but often times it gets overlooked and leaves people wondering why they are carrying extra water... remember, not everyone here is a competitor or serious body builder and many are trying to get in the right shape and scale down and sodium will not be so friendly if overdone on that aspect.. there are different scenarios... your right though that it is a necessity and does have great benefits but it can be detrimental... for example... hgh use... sodium to potassium ratios cause the water retention people cannot explain when using hgh because the sodium supersedes the potassium too far... or the extra water retention in general from over doing it... it can effect your blood pressure in a very bad way etc... however it is necessary for a lot of goals as well... it just needs to be watched and not overdone... noone once ever said or implied to eliminate it or not get adequate amounts...

I def get what you're saying! That's pretty crazy about the hgh didn't know that. And I agree the average American or person would probably see a lot better results cuting the sodium in their look and water retention! I'd also go to say most foods very high in sodium are foods we need to avoid as well!!

Lol if you lived where I live you would drive to go to a restuarant or you would eat at home.I'm in w.v. not l.a. the best gym in town is my basement.

I think that it is a combo of things. You need sodium to live ,but that only amounts to 1 teaspoon per day. Problem too is that the more sodium you eat then the bigger difference in your sodium/potassium ratio. Like I have said before..I mix "no salt" Potassium chloride by 1/2 with regular salt..sodium chloride. Carefull of other forms of sodium that you may be getting. Sodium silicate, sodium type preservatives like sodium nitrate. The worst is msg.I taste i my tongue the whole day.
As I said my cheat meal is on a Saturday and it is usually a whole cup of plain unsalted cashews.. If wifey buys the salted ones then I rinse them off. Salt is like sugar..once your body does not get them the less you care for them. It seems I have become very salt intolerant, and sugar just makes me choke. You would be surprized at what your body will get used to.

I am the same way... I have not put salt on anything in years... I completely lost my taste for it all the way around... I was never a big salt person in general, maybe on scrambled eggs or corn on the cob when i was a lot younger but i don't even touch it now because i just don't even care for it...

Yeah bro, most have no clue about the sodium/potassium ratio importance with hgh use... I am sure you have seen the issues with water retention and hgh use and this is a direct correlation with this ratio and it is very touchy as well... More often than not, foods are stacked with extra sodium and its unnecessary... like broth for instance... i get the no sodium broth for chicken and vegetable soup and knock it down to 10 calories with normal or trace sodium etc... otherwise, you eat normal broth and have a few servings and your damn near your daily value... even eggs and egg whites... if you have 10 egg whites in a day your already over 30% of your daily value or right there... people don't realize how fast it adds up... just something to watch, just like anything else...

Yes true man it is definitely in the Water and Potassium department that people are lacking - they eat all this premade or preserved stuff packed full of sodium and don't eat any potassium foods - combine that with people usually drinking Sodas or even worse DIET sodas, which I believe have more sodium, it just gets worse from there.

So do you guys have a cheat day? Is it every week biweekly or monthly? If so do you still watch your caloric intake or is it no hold barred? Would love to hear any and all I am thinking of maybe once a week, but in the back of my mind and everywhere else in my body I am thinking, "Hey dickhead you did 4 and half hours of cardio, and kicked your own ass all week why the F would you do that"?

So lets hear your thoughts

I do not be.ieve in cheat "days". That can really set you back a lot. I do however, incorporate cheat meals myself a couple times per week. The main thing is if you are going to do them, figure out how they fit into your diet plan. Mine are all calculated and figured into my plan to not set me back any. It works well for me because I'm already very lean (7-8%) and am just trying to maintain this leanness. It works well with the amount of cardio I do on top of the 90% clean eating.

In my opinion if you are trying to get lean, you need to forget about cheat meals for the most part, and only have one sparingly at rare occasions. Otherwise you'll end up spinning your wheels and get nowhere. Set a goal, and accomplish it. Cheat meals can help you satisfy cravings and give you some sanity, on top of giving you something to look forward to, but they have to be planned and done accordingly for your goals or you will waste a weeks worth of progress in a sitting.

Rick is spot on!
I have cheat meals from time to time.
And on a verry occasional basis a cheat day. (Family BBQs are a bitch! LOL)
