Do you use caffeine as a pre-workout or for any other reason?

What's a reasonable dose of caffeine per day? I'm using about 300-400 mg per day, would there be any benefits to going higher than this? I do enjoy the energy and focus I get after taking caffeine

I wouldn't recommend going too high with your caffeine. I find natural sources (coffee) work best for me as they have natural antioxidants (might not be antioxidants but they have something) to help in a slower rate of absorption and a slower rate of caffeine leaving the body, allowing for less of a crash. Also, if you go too high with caffeine you will have some bad side effects, heart issues, problems sleeping, you'll also start getting random twitches. All in all, caffeine does good things when used properly but going too high can cause problems so just monitor it

You desensitize to caffeine over time. It's fine to use in moderation. I do myself, but you don't want to go too high with it. Once it starts losing effect you should take some time off of it to make it more effective

Yeah Preworkout can be a great tool but too much of anything is bad and he is correct you should cycle off once in a while to renew its potency I get to the point sometimes where I can drink 3 big ass scoops and it doesn't do anything but make me itch a little

Anything more than 400mg daily can't be too good. I'm pretty sure that's the maximum recommended dosage. I'd go for caffeine pills or pre-workout over coffee any day as most coffee's are filled with micro toxins unless you get the organic stuff. A lot if the minor side effects from coffee like sour stomach and acid reflux can be attributed to this.

The only caffeine I ever get is from an occasional chocolate bar.

But then I have sleep problems, so its rather a requirement to stay away from it.

Morning coffee every once in a great while, I like coffee, but I find it useful only when dragging ass tired and needing a pre workout pick me up.

i dont touch it... its one of those things that you absolutely desensitize to and then you need more... the more you consume, the more it tears up your stomach and has a negative effect on you... personally, i dont need it and i dont buy the fact anyone actually does... being reliant on stimulants to work out is something i feel is nothing more than a lack of self intrinsic motivation...

I work nights and have kids, caffeine is a must for me. Moderation is definitely key..

thats completely different.. thats to stay awake at work, not to motivate you to work out... i know you dont need it to hit the iron

fuck , you know this... as crazy as this sounds... i fucking look forward to it every night before i go to bed.. i wake up and hit cardio right away and my day is just fucking sweet because of it and then by the time im ready for weights in the evening, im feeling on top of the world, refreshed etc..

If you need more than 300-400 at a time then you're exhausting your adrenal system and need to take a break. I've needed up to 600mg mornings before and shit wasn't doing much. You can severely exhaust your system if you take it too often. Try to get more than minimum required amounts of iodine too every day because your body needs more if you takes stims a lot.

I definately overdo it on the stims big time eca stacks 3 times a day when doing that lots of pure 1 3 dmaa love that stuff adderall once in a while . they loose there effect after a while . Im a mechanic and work 55 to 60 hrs a week and have a shop at my house and do side work all weekend and some nights after work .and I train 7 days a week so yeah when the stims where off you usually find me sleeeping in some random place

I drink a lot of caffeine with 5 kids it is needed. But I do agree taking a break I usually take a month off and let me say withdrawals suckered headache up the you know what

I work out really early and many times I don't get a whole lot of sleep so stimulants are a must for me. However I know when I need to take a break when they aren't working as good anymore

for me personally 300-400mg is way too much. i use 100-200mg. basically a cup of coffee. or some green tea. or there is a few pre workouts that i do like. Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy. or ABB Amino Force or ABB NOS Pumped. these are the only ones i will use. i hate mr hyde, c4, no explode, and all the common ones. poor mans pre workout is a cup of black coffee with a scoop of creatine.

I have 13-14 hour long days with school work and driving. For me I take a 200mg caffeine pill and drink 1 cup of coffee during the week. For workout purposes I can't take caffeine and really don't have the need. I don't like the way it makes me feel when trying to lift heavy objects!

Right now I only have a cup of coffee per day. It is always in the morning as part of my routine or if I train early I have it with my preworkout meal. Eggs, oatmeal, and a cup of black coffee. Here is a great way to lower caffeine intake without getting headaches......

Make your own coffee at home. Mix 2 scoops regular coffee and 1 scoop decaf for 2 weeks. Then do 1 scoop regular and 2 scoops decaf for 2 weeks. Then you are good to go. I guarantee that after this you will not "need" a morning coffee just to avoid a caffeine headache. Decaf still has a super low amount of caffeine so your body still recognizes it. That and with it still tasting the same and being a hot beverage it tricks the body as well.
