Who else collects guns?

Don't understand how you guys say AR's are finicky, life long in the Infantry. 3 tours in Iraq and 1 in the Stan. Countless TICs, never had a misfeed a jam or any kind of failure with the M4. The AR's is professional man's weapon. AK's while rugged are a poor man's weapon that just puts lead downrange with little to no accuracy.

As long as you keep them clean, they function fine. But you can let an AK sit in mud, drag it around the jungle, rarely clean it, and it'll still function. Although as you said, they arent an accurate weapon.

And I'm sure your hate runs deeper than I could imagine, and that's what pisses me off even more that you had to go through bunch of shit so I would just like to say thank you for serving bro, because of you me and my family friends are much safer. My father was retired army Vietnam vet purple heart served 22 years I believe 9th infant light div out of monterey ca. was fort ord. grew up on the base til I was 10 then moved to nor cali

Unfortunately my dad passed away in 2014 due to complications from diabetes which he contracted in Vietnam from agent Orange spray. We buried him here in Dixon CA VA memorial he had full honors and was deemed duty related... Just thought I'd share, but thanks for the comments it means alot coming from you

As you guys can see, I approach this whole debate with a military mind set, professionalism, marksmanship and security. A weapon is only as good as the man behind it, some weapon systems make the man behind it more competent, whith the AK you get none of that, the shooting dynamics are all fucked up, poor sights, loose slide equals a reliable but less then ideal shooting platform. The M4 is just a master piece, after the initial kinks of reliability have been worked out its a weapon that the military has tried to replace but can't find a replacement because the weapon system is just so well damn balanced.

I both agree and disagree. With a small 3-4 Recon team, only 1 person could ever break down their weapon for cleaning. This was so we were always at ready.

Often we'd just carry AK's, both for flawless functioning, but in reality more because we didnt wanna look like Soldiers, and if we have to fire, didnt wanna sound like Americans either. (Same thing, no boots(ok, we glued sandal soles to our boots, so we wouldnt leave soldier tracks, ate native so we didnt smell like american, etc).

But Recon is a whole different sort of beast.

You can get unfinished receivers, and have an untraceable AR, or just get the parts. as far as I recall, the only tool you'd need is a barrel wrench, and headspace tool to double check. Other than that, they are incredibly easy to build. You can even buy finished uppers.

What years did ya serve. Because the problems you speak of I'm not familiar with. Even at Polk we didn't really have weapon issues. The Armalites, are pretty much had reliability issues resolved years ago

Like I said above, the big reason we carried Ak's, is covertness. It was just a side benefit they they run forever.

From my old m16a1's to todays M4, the basic design is still the same. The only substantial difference is burst fire and barrel twist.

The receiver and gas tube has had extensive upgrades

I stand corrected, i do see the receiver feed ramp was modified, but I cant find anything about gas tube.

Nevermind, found the improvements in gas-feedback
