Buddy of mine dropped 500 lbs ...hit his chest, rolled down his torso..tore his liver n half, crushed his spline, broke ribs, collapsed lungs...he almost died..stayed in hospital 6 months...he did not lock his thumbs..rolled right out his hands...spotters couldn't catch it in time..professional spotters at that as this happened as he attempted a world record for his class

yea... I have a bad habit of benching and resting the bar on just my palms.... I'm going to stop that.... Hows your buddy these days... does he lift at all anymore??
It's pretty crazy, especially with spotters on him, but things can get away from you in a hurry and it can end up on your neck in a split second. That's why it's so important to LOCK your thumbs around the bar! I'll never understand these guys pushing heavy weight with their thumbs on top

Just cuz I read this shit now I'm gonna play it safe and lock my thumbs in... 315 I consider child's play and now just cuz I read this I don't wanna jinx myself. Ughhhhh.....
Yea he still lifts..but no more competing. He was right there at getting his procard. Now he looks like an above average natty....thumb locking can save your life..it'll slow the bar just enough that spotters can do thier job
But remember, 135 can hurt the fuck out u too! Imagine that dropping 2 ft down n hitting your throat. I won't be pretty...hang around the gym long enough and you'll see freak accidents. I've seen elbows blow out , biceps tear, triceps tear. Chest tear, wrists snapped like a twig. No matter how strong u are u have no idea how weak a tendon might be getting because the juice is making u feel like superman! sometimes it's pure form then other times it's just a freak accident..I know a guy one time horsin around with his buddies n the guy kicked him in the Shin just fucking around and he shattered that dudes leg. it broke in 3 places, had to have pins, screws, surgery, full hip to floor cast....come to find out he had osteoporosis..who would know that? dude was 20 something..so u never know.U Gota be careful every lift and always use a spotter if u can.even warming up
Im sure you guys all saw this but it's one of my good friends mishaps. He's all better now and only competes in bench for powerlifting, went for 850 squat and had already done on 3 occasions.
