Thinking about joining the air national guard

Ahh I see. Ok I'll find a recruiter to talk to. My job has a bunch of guys who retired military. I'll talk to them.

key is just "talk" don't let them talk you into signing yet. trust but verify everything they tell you by talking to others

To enlist? It can take as little as 2weeks if you go take the Asvab, then pick your job then go to Meps and do the Med screening and swear in. Training wise It'll be different lengths depending on the job.

Also in the guard you begin your service the day you enlist and start attending Drills on the weekend either with your unit you enlist in or a Recruit sustainment program(or whatever it's called now) where they teach you some of what you'll need to know in basic i.e. Rank structure, Drill and ceremony and general fitness not that I think you'll need the fitness lectures lol

Yea I agree with this aswell. My advice is take the Asvab one day then go home and go to the ANG website and see the available jobs and then see if you qualify for the jobs that interest you and then go back to the recruiter and get the info. The good thing about the Guard is most of the recruiters aren't trying to fuck you because they don't PCS like active duty.

Yea I'm kinda nervous. Don't want to sign up for something I don't want.

What's PCS? Yes I'm not looking for a full time job through them. I just want the benefits. I don't mine the 1 weekend a month and maybe advancing in a new career if one comes up

ya like I said the tech school is job dependant. basic training is standard 6 weeks or 3 months I cant remember. its only been 25 years lol
I think AF basic is now 8-9 weeks. Or atleast it was a couple of years ago when my brother went through.

Yea the recruiters for ANG are full time they just don't move to other duty stations so they usually don't try and fuck over their recruits because they know they'll see them again. Yea ANG is one weekend a month two weeks a year other than schools and mobilization

PCS=permanent change of station. meaning when you move to another base. which is pretty non existent with the guard.

Yes that's one of the main reasons why I want to join the guard instead of the other ones haha. I want to stay in my home state

ya ok but like FL said start with scheduling your asvab if you didn't take it in high school. then you will know what jobs you qualify for. trust but verify what the recruiters say to you. ask him if he can set you up with a tour of the actual shops you want to work at and talk to the people there.

yes they will set you up a way to get on base and talk with some shops if they say they cant they are full of shit, do you know anyone that works on base? you can get on that way as well.

Yea this is good info. Yes they will allow you to do this, I actually did this when I did my short stint in the Guard. Yea always verify the info they give you. The Air national guard website has a map that you can see the available open jobs in your state.

A lot of the ANG jobs aren't even on base they are located at Armories or Airports so it makes it easier to gain access to speak with someone
