Reverse dieting ?

I did a reverse diet after my last show. I added carbs slowly back in while decreasing cardio. I adjusted my intake every two weeks or so to see how my body reacted. Currently sitting at 2400 kcal with no cardio. I was at 900-1000 kcal 3 weeks out from the competition. Well above maintenance now( eating more than I should ) was wanting to get in a good place calorically and cardio wise before I start my cut/prep May 1st. I think I put on 19 pounds in 12 month off season.

I agree with RickRock on not eating too much above maintenance, maybe 300 kcal would be a good goal.

Am I reading this right? You ended your cut on 900-1000 calories a day? What are your stats? 200g of protein is 800 calories by itself.

Yes you are .. my stats are
Female
5'7
current weight 153
stage weight 135 I think I didn't weigh myself during peak week

The coach I had at the time felt going that low would help lean my legs out well it didn't all it did was eat up what little muscle I had left. Needless to saw this person is no longer my coach!

If your cals were this low ???? How long did you reverse diet back up to 2400 . Also how much you weigh ?

I guess I should have started with I'm a female. I'm currently 153, it took 11 months but I did do a mini cut during that time also.

This makes more sense, however 900-1000cal still seems low..as you now know. Good job on firing the coach.

I have also read material that suggest the longer the cut, the smaller the increases.

I think smaller would be way better Any way. As small as you can tolerate atleast . Anything you can do to give your body ample time to recover and get used to it . I would assume that your reverse diet should most likely be almost if. It equal to the time it took you to take the weight off . And I wouldn't reduce cardio untill your done with with reverse diet . Maybe reduce the duration depending on how long your sessions are . Or if you were doing 7 days of cardio cut it back to 2 dAys and cruise there . Not just to reduce fat gain but for heart health . Over the past few years I have taken cardio very serious and I think it's just as important as weights bc of hearth health . You can have all the muscle in the world but if your heart is garbage you will be garbage . the positive benefits to cardio are endless imo no matter what goals you have .

This way seems to make the most sense . In a video I watched it says people can't stick to reverse dieting cuz it's to hard ?? Idk what's hard about adding more food . It may be slow but atleast it's increase not decrease lol . I've never had a problem sticking to any diet plan . What happens to me is I get bored and run out of shit to eat that I like . I don't eat fish so there's a bunch of stuff off my menu from the start .

Regarding cardio, personally what I do is decrease my cardio to a baseline amount.

Example:

If I ended my cut at 2100 calories and 2.5 - 3 Hours Total Cardio per week, I would begin my reverse diet by increasing calories to 2200 (by adding 25 carbs) and reducing cardio to 1 Hour total per week. This takes me out of the deficit. I then use that 1 hour of cardio per week as my baseline as I increase calories over the coming weeks/month. Unless I am cutting, I don't do a lot of cardio. I stay lean by keeping energy balance in check and do a few cardio sessions per week for cardiovascular health.

IMO people can't stick to reverse dieting because it requires a high degree of compliance and a greater attention to detail. I mean adding a 100 calories is almost a negligible amount of food to the eye. Adding 100 calories is equivalent to adding 20-30g of oats or 100g of sweet potato to a meal. Most people don't have their nutrition dialed in that precise nor do they have the desired too, which I can respect. However, at the same time, I have no sympathy for them when they gain it all back either.

Thats true you gotta look at the bigger picture . 100 calories a week is nothing but over a month that's an extra 400 calories a day . I could live comfortably on 2700 calories a day . I don't need tons of carbs to survive either .
