Pre-Workout and Neural fatigue

New member
Up until recently I have been out of the game all together for about 3 years, damn you drugs and alcohol, but made a decision to get back to what I love. I remember some years back, pre workouts would warn of not using on consecutive days or no more than "x" amount of days per week. I thought then it was because of potential cardiac problems but then I began learning of neural fatigue. Now I am familiar with the body's ability to build a tolerance for certain substances (I experienced this myself with the aforementioned plagues in my life.) Does this still hold true with today's pre workouts, should it be used sparingly, cycled or has the supplement industry come so far as to make them okay for everyday use? I don't even use the recommended serving.

It holds true for nearly as stimulant my man.. It's actually true for nearly any foreign or synthetic compound because the human body is so advanced that it just adapts to nearly anything..

Stims and preworkout is no different and YES it is very true that overdoing on stims can destroy natural energy levels and numerous other sides.. But I understand it's difficult not to use a little pre workout supp as motivation, as a pump, whatever it may be, we are creatures of habit and even if we dont NEED it physically, your brain is going to crave it mentally and think you need it...

Find something that one can be used in moderation I mean there are plenty of non-stim preworkouts these days, or just try and keep it simple and basic like having a cup of coffee and that's it.. Trust me it is more of a mental thing, my strength/pumps/whatever are no different when I take a preworkout and when I don't

Yes, it is absolutely true that your body will desensitize to stimulants over time and they will be far less effective unless you raise the dose. That's why it is recommended to cycle those types of things. Use them for a little while, then when you start to feel the effectiveness wearing off, cycle off of it for a month to 6 weeks instead of raising the dose before starting it again. I'm not a supporter of increasing doses because of desensitization and downregulation. You want to use the proper dose until it is no longer doing it's intended purpose, then cycle off as needed

Tyrosine and benadryl can help to an extent to refresh but nothing really will other than abstinence from stims altogether for a while

Yes unfortunately it is very true... I personally can't stand pre workouts... I burnt myself out on them so bad to the point where I can't even smell them without my stomach turning and that's not even an exaggeration... I have a slightly weaker stomach as it is and this really created me problems to the point of having to spend MONTHS fixing my gut flora etc and that was a flat out painful experience...

In all honesty, I have found coffee to be far more than ideal and it really curbs my appetite on top of it... Its not for everyone and should not be abused, as it often is but if you can use it properly, it really does well...

I'm glad you mentioned that, I am finishing a course of antibiotics today and I was going up to my local health food store in a couple hours and I wanted to pick up some stuff for my gut flora and some probiotics. What do you recommend?

Absolutely brother. Coffee is exactly what I use for a preworkout anymore, and its all I need.

Renew Life Ultimate Flora is damn good, should be in the refrigerator but will come with a price tag, up to you and your goals because probiotics vary tremendously just like anything

Thanks! Something's you can't put a price on. I'll see if they have it where I'm going.

Good topic btw considering our forum name. Adrenal fatigue is shitty and there are lots of good herbs and such that help a lot to rejuvenate the adrenal system. We all know about rhodiola I assume or at least have heard of it. Mucuna is actually an adaptogen as well I just read and I believe that can help if my understanding of the word adaptogen is correct. As someone else said, benedryl or diphenhydramine can help reset you system sorta.

I'm going to start dosing my caffeine with theanine. I have read I it does wonders when taken with caffeine.

Interesting. Any good articles, bro?

No problem, I added a couple more but they all are basically saying the same thing.
