When I was a lot younger just moving ridiculous weight as a natty I used to say I'll worry about wear and tear when I'm older. Fast forward... I'm older. Doctors say my kness are 70, my back is 70 plus and I need to take it easy. I resent that phrase 'take it easy'. You do that when you drive, when your in the hot tub, when you're lying in bed resting. My philosophy on lifting has always been simple "HEAVY and HARD" and I can't sit still without aches and pains, I can't sleep in most positions because I'm a lumpy dude and certain body parts are heavy and get uncomfortable while asleep. I can't squat regularly and if I do I'm regulated to the Smith Machine since I can't grab the barbell. At age 45 I probably have the aches of a 70yo man like the docs say, but The 44 says "Fuck that". I'm not the man I used to be... I'm bigger, better and more determined. I might be sore af all the time, but I look like a car flippin SOB.
Admittedly the only thing I'd do differently is get a script for stronger pain meds like Tylenol 3. I would have adjusted my squatting to allow for longevity over killing all the cartilage, but fuck it too late now. I'm not gonna say in hindsight anything, what I will say is I like the look I have and I love lifting very heavy shit. Lift how you wanna do it. My only request is that you lift to get swole/jacked/cut/ whatever versus like that dude we look at wanting to know who directed him to our gym. There's a reason we get admired for our work ethic... from me to Bigsteve, to ccbram, To buen, to my bro rockmfhudd and our big bro Dylan... we push the limits will ill regard to the normal persons limitations. Excellence is ours to own. I ain't the mother fucker I was... I'm better.

It's all finally catching up to you huh bro ? Look at it this way, you had a good run... Now time to start working smarter instead of harder, no need for u to destroy yourself then you really won't be making any kind of gains. Stay strong minded, this happened to me after my last totaled motorcycle accident. Took some time to get used to the idea but believe me it's much healthier for you in the long run. I'm right behind you closin in on 38 years myself with 8 disc issues and some in my neck ranging from deteriorated discs to protrusions. I can't remember all the BS I don't even think I can read my MRI anymore to understand what I'm looking at but I have several. This happen to me around 2011 and shits been different for me ever since
 
Well you look damn good bro despite gettin a little older. I'll learn from your experience so thanks for posting. I have neck and shoulder issues and I'm not as reckless as I once was.

Nothing wrong with aging, or lifting wisely, but as long as I can toss up big numbers it's me vs me and you just fired the race gun. Thank you for the motivation for me to shut up and quit complaining about my injuries. There are people who can't do what we do, won't do what we do and we can... no excuses, no limitations until we crash, burn, or die.

As long as I got my umphh and my teeth - I'll lift like a beast.
I can pull the weight up, let my brothers in arms help me pull myself up.

Can never get enough of this brother. Combat mode ON. Going to get me some IRON in my diet.

Honestly when I read those words from Angelo my eyes welled up. Part self loathe for complaining and part pissed off at myself, all motivation though. The gym is gonna die today.
 
I feel your pain bro, pun intended. Lifting hard and heavy has always been my mentality, but at 42 years old now....even though I still lift hard and heavy there are certain things I just can't do anymore.....like heavy squats or deadlifts. When it comes to those I will increase the reps a lot and just keep it fairly light. My back thanks me. You just have to listen to your body and adapt

Great workout today. Stopped at the grocery store and picked up a ton of liver, kale, citrus fruits and juices. I feel pretty good post wo. Nothing like being told you're done making gains to motivate the shit outta ya.
 
Suck it up, buttercup. Anyone that has pushed their body beyond normal performance pays for it down the road. I'm 15 years older than you, paying the price of doing bad ass shit when in my 20's. Shit didnt hit for years later though.

I still lift more than most at the gym(not to your scale, not even remotely), but at 60 I'm in better shape than most 1/2 my age.

Once a bad ass, always a bad ass, just an older bad ass... :)

Aye, Aye to that. Can't hit the side of a barn with a shotgun now, but the mofo's who felt my boomstick before my sight went to shit can't argue about shit. Eye exam scheduled... deadly will be back on deck soon enough. In the meantime, Mossberg 930 Tactical.
 
I still have my USMC Remington 870, managed to sneak away the short barrel for it too, but in my suck ass state, its illegal to have it onthe weapon.

If I lived Texas, I'd have so many damned machine guns, the surrounding states would be in fear. :)
