For some who know, I'm a men's physique competitor. NPC, going for Pro IFBB card in a month.

I coach youth football too. I get asked everyday by someone, a dad or kid....how much do you lift, what's your bench. It literally drives me crazy. I know from those who don't lift, that's the typical question to ask. My response is typically I don't know or I'll give them a working set of 225 or 285.

Then that look comes, oh I thought you were stronger....I be like, I'm stronger than you..

People would like to associate your look as a role model. The way you look may simply be associated in their mind with some sort of unbelievable number. It's quite possible (and give it a go) that if you inflated that number by 80lb you may still get the same response.

People that have no relationship with the industry simply are so far out of the loop, that person may not even know the difference between someone that benches 400ln 3 reps vs a low intensity high volume favouring athlete.

Physique is getting quite challenging from what I can tell, hope you kill it, brother.

And don't sweat the ignorant, they know not what they know not ;)

You cant fault them for not knowing the difference between body building and a powerlifting

What irritates me is tall guys that come in and assume they are big. Dude look at your proportions...you're not big, your just a fit tall person. I'm 5' 9" and if you take my proportions and put them on someone say 6' 4"... that'd be a big dude. Just because God blessed you with height and a little strength, DON'T ASSUME you're the official gym bad ass. They always come find me and wanna train right beside me to show off and then leave embarrassed.

I'd buy a ticket to sit in on that show!

One show, they had us in a 5'9" to 6'. Initially I thought I was gone get crushed, but I won the class. You're right proportions. I'm just under 5'10". Then for an overall I was up against the tall and short class and thought I would get smashed, but still pulled it out.

it just comes with the territory bro... take it as a compliment... if i had a dollar for every person that asked me how they could "get ripped" or do this or that like i do, i would be a multi millionaire... i used to get so fucking annoyed but i just take it as a compliment and realize that many people are just plain ignorant on this entire health and fitness field... it comes easy to those who live it but not that many really do... they have no clue and so you just have to develop that understanding, which takes time for sure...

I agree, it is hard especially when people ask what type of gear you ran or are on, I'm natty so far and I can take it either way depends on the day or who and how they ask, if I say natural do they actuially believe me? who knows... some might a lot probably not. so I can take it as a compliment or not. Most people don't understand it takes work either way you go.

i hate when asked about gear... often i just turn my head and dont even respond or i will give someone a look and just shake my head... i did actually have a small talk with a worker at gnc... i had run in there to grab some dandelion root the other day because i happened to be by one, generally i go to vitamin shoppe... the guy knew who i was immediately, called me by name and then pulled up one of my videos on his phone so i did talk with him a bit but just some random moron at the gym that doesn't know a fucking thing, does not deserve a response... for me, a stupid fucking comment gets an even worse response..

Dude, if I had a dollar for every time I get asked that question. I don't know why how much you bench becomes the comparison standard for anyone with a decent physique. For those of us that are bodybuilders or physique oriented athletes, we probably don't even know the answer to that. I haven't bench pressed at all in a year, and before that I hadn't done a one rep max in longer than I can remember.

I just tell them I don't even lift lol

i have literally never asked someone how much they bench, even when i started lifting when i was 12 years old... it sounded fucking stupid to me even then... that is literally the most absurd and flat out fucking stupid question you can ask... what does that even mean or prove... any fat fuck with short arms can bench a lot.. so what's the point?

I like when they say stuff like "so you lift a little I see" that always cracks me the hell up.
I had a barber ask me to train him.... he got mad at me when I chuckled because I knew he was clueless. Said could get like me in 6 weeks. I said "okay dude" and left. Nothing is better at making my day that ignorant Shits of people.

i get shit like that all the time... it was just as bad when i played basketball... my dad used to send me straight to the hood to develop my game... i remember getting dropped off, by myself at 14 years old and he was there watching away to make sure i was safe but i was out there alone getting my ass kicked every day until finally i was the one everyone would pick first... so im moving up and finally get to play in college and i get these fucking morons always challenging sayin they can be better this and that... i used to just abuse the fuck out of them to prove a point but now, when someone says stupid shit about being more ripped, cut etc... IF THEY WANT.. LOL i just dont even bother. .. trying to reason with the unreasonable is so pointless anymore... its pure comedy that so many live in such a fantasy land... i live on planet earth... i urge others to join me...

Yea, I love when old guys stop me and talk about how they used to be in shape or do those biceps come with the t shirt...lol...I'll talk to older ppl out of respect and admiration than the 45 n below...I'll entertain kids sometimes just to get them to work hard

Honestly I find that young, or old they all act like the amount of effort is too much, they weights too heavy and if you watch them they will regress. People who think they want it always regress. Or they have that standard excuse.... I just want to tone up a little, I don't wanna be big like you. So why you mirin '?

Oh hell yeah bro. I just shake my head every time I hear about how they looked like this or that when they were younger. Hear that shit everywhere. What's funny is a lot of these guys that say that shit are my age, and I'm like.....well I'm 42, so what the fuck happened?
