Ok this may sound weird but I am really curious, I have never had shredded abs or knew anyone that had shredded abs my whole life.
The only time I've seen them are on websites, photos, tv etc.
So this is my question to you guys that have shredded abs. Obviously when we workout, flex or tighten up/ pose our muscles look better, so the question for you guys with the abs, are they shredded without tightening them up? is the six packed ripped 24-7? Or do you have to tighten them up for that look?
 
That depends on your body fat. When im around 10-11 you can see them without flexing but flexing really brings them out. When im 8 and under i dont need to flex and u can see them pretty easily and then flexing will bring out the serratus more as those muscles dont do alot work except when twisting.

This is relaxed at about 9% ish.
 
Gotcha, Thanks always wondered that, I got some work to do, I can see top 4 pretty decent when flexing them, but can't see them relaxed at all.
 
i can see mine relaxed, yes but of course not nearly as much as when flexing them... thats going to hold true for most... if you have really aesthetically pleasing abs and are lean enough then you can see them at a normal posture but obviously flexing them shows a million times over..

For me it just depends. When I'm around 8 or 9% you can see my lines on the abs, but they aren't anywhere near as prominent unless flexed. At 6-7% they look pretty chiseled all the time flexed or not. Another thing, is after my cheat meals or any times might be holding water from extra carbs or sodium it's goi got temporarily wash them out for a bit until I dry out. During the summer they look the best where I'll usually have veins across my abs and everything. Winter time I bulk up so they get softer Even though I still have a 6 pack and stay single digits.

There is a lot to do with genetics too. I've seen guys that are like 12% with pretty defined abs, where some like me have to get quite a bit leaner before they really pop
 
I will say you were one I expected to hear from on this Rick with that profile pic, where were you at roughly there? They look friggin shredded.

That was taken a couple days pre contest. I was in the mid 5% range there
 
And really hard to maintain

Haha that's no joke bro! I certainly didn't hold it long after the show. It takes hell of a lot of discipline to maintain that level of conditioning. I know Dylan stays in or around the 5% range all the time, but he is a whole different animal. Lol. I couldn't do it year round. No way.

I do pretty damn good staying 7-8% year round , but that type of conditioning to get to 5% takes some serious fucking discipline

Dylan being 5% is very tough. Small portions and tons of cardio and dedication

Bottom is like 2 weeks before show...top is like 2 days out..low bf% then, low water, still not shredded enough...gotta keep dial8ng in that diet for them to pop just right...

Still tho looking thick. Ab detail is easily worked on
I'm struggling right now. Trying to get leaner without losing too much muscle for show. Getting frustrated. Sometimes I just rather do BB, since they letting them be fat...lmao...
