Question on workout Im doing. Should I or should I not

I was discussing my routine with a good friend who is doing very well in his working out and building efforts. He is 53, I am 52. In a nut shell, giving my workout space and the fact I was on a walker only a year before from back surgery, I have also endured atrophy of my left arm in 2012 from cervical disc rupture, pinched off the nerve.

I have worked my way back from the Abyss. I never used pain meds. I lost near 80 lbs thus far. I need to loose some more weight but thats taking time.

My routine is simple. I do 35 mins of Stair stepper Cardio then go into front arm hammer curls and alternate between free weight dumbbell curls and back arm skull crushers laying down. I get enough reps between them both so I can barely close my arms they are pumped maxed.I HAVE TO BE CAREFUL ON THE KIND OF ARM WORK FROM INJURIES. That is why I'm doing basic front and back arms.

I have built my left arm back to near equal to my right arm. I am left handed. I was able to test grip strength for my right hand at 135 lbs. My left was 125. So close but still less then it should be.

Cardio is going really well. I hydrate with 120 ounces of water before each workout. I do three a week.

I carb up with dried fruit and some almonds before workout.

Do a protein shake before workout for my morning meal. After workout, Inside of a few hours I eat salad with meats and veggies.

Feel good.

My friend said I should NOT do cardio before workouts with weights no more then 2 hours before or after. He said I need to conserve nutrients and energy for the weight lifting to grow those muscles.

I wonder if that maybe I should just do Cardio on off days and Weights on say Mon, Wed and Sat. Cardio Tue, Thursday and Sunday.

Is there any truth to this? Meaning is Cardio robbing the muscle building efforts I want by doing cardio in advance for the weight work?

PS I plan to do other muscle groups but given my orthopedic situation i have had to work back from a tough place. Getting there slowly.

Using 300Ms Test a week, split in two injections a week. nandrolone once a week 150mgs. Also taking 1mg Adex twice a week. My estradiol was way high and that fixed that.

Its so ridiculously hard to deplete your glycogen storage. You are fine. and as long as you ae getting results thats what matters. Tell you freind to prove with any ounce of scientific study that what he is saying is remotely a fact. Its not its bro science for the most part. If you have the nutrition to support it, you can do whatever you want.

thats absurd... do you realize i have been doing cardio pre workout for nearly a decade and thats INTENSE cardio... im talking 75-90 minutes per day... through all that, anytime im after size i now exactly how to do it... i cant even imagine attempting to lift at this point without having done pre cardio... your friend is more than wrong...

Great, I feel better doing my cardio in advance. I wanted to do it to mainly to avoid injury.

Thank you

Preworkout cardio is the best time for it anyhow. Doing it after will just pull the blood from the muscle you just worked which isn't ideal.

You are perfectly fine with your preworkout cardio. I do my cardio on days I'm not lifting, but it's just my own personal preference. There's nothing wrong with doing the, on the same day. I did daily cardio before lifting the whole time I was in contest prep, and I experienced no negatives from that whatsoever

I could have the science all wrong but as I understand it, cardio warms you up and gets your muscles ready to fire before lifting. I have always felt better and stronger with this method. I don't do it simply because of the time factor but if I had 3 hours to workout then this would be my method.

Before every workout I usually do 7-10min worm up cardio with moderate intensity run or a bit above the avarage intensity stair steppers. Gets the "hot blood" runing through the veins. It makes them more elastic and joints lubricated as well as better blood circulation for following workout. Then I have another 5min warming up joints/body with streching on a matress, monitoring my body language if I don't over do it and cause damadge before any deeper stretching.
