I have a night job and work 5 days a week each day 8 hours,my problem is at the end of working week my legs and ankles hold so much water, and when i dont work for 2 days it goes away...is it because of high cortisol?

No I don't believe so bro. I would look at your sodium and water intake. Depending on what your job is, your electrolyte balance could be off as well. I know how this goes because I must keep up my electrolytes and water very high. I work in a very physical job in extreme heat conditions that are between 120-130 degrees in a factory during the summer months

Some folks are just prone to this condition esp if you are standing for many hours in a row without sitting down. When you go to work wear some of those knee high compression socks and I'll bet they stop it. If you have low bodyfat and are in really good shape then you may want to trying drinking a lot more water with an occasional very diluted pedialyte thrown in. Keep in mind that if you are working a night shift then you are out of rythym with nature's cycles. If you ever sprained an ankle or wrist you will alway see more swelling at night. More fever at night, colds feel worse at night etc.

I'm a paramedic...there's many different things that can cause that. First and foremost you need to consider your medical history. (ie...heart problems, diabetes, liver problems and renal issues, etc) your age and medications you take. This could be absolutely nothing or this could be something serious. There are several medical issues that will cause this type of edema. I would not overlook this and see your doctor. Better to be safe.

all very good and valid points... thank you for posting... its so great to have someone in the medical field here to help with these kind of issues because these could be caused by anything and there is an abundance of variant information here that could cause this so it's nice to have a full breakdown like this of the many scenarios that could cause this from a medical standpoint... thank you!
