Hello all! I am drb,the younger brother of drb...lol. I am a retired chemist and worked many years for big pharm before opening my own private lab.
I am going to write about two things 1) the history of cyp 2) the history of amps.
The first test was test E and it was widely used in europe. It was believed to be good for 2 weeks to 1 month. BS eh? Yes! But in those days test was not used a lot as there was very little understanding of trt.There were many people with various test problems including those born with what is called medically, a micropenis. This means a penis size of less than 1.5 inches.If treated with test, the problem can be avoided but therapy must start at the onset of puberty or earlier.
So I was always in charge of making what is called a "pilot plant" This meant I would set up a small scale plant that would mimic mass porduction.
Since the whole world only ever made test E then so did we. It was BTG Pharmaceuticals, and we made Delatestryl, which was 200mg/ml test E. This stuff sold like crazy but we just turned a blind eye to it. It wasn't a schduled drug ,so no one cared.
Then latter, the scientist pool wanted to set up a pilot plant to make test cyp. There were quite a few reasons for this, mostly that cyp was cheaper and easier to make. We knew that we were going against the grain because we had to convince docs that it was better than E.
So to produce cyp or any form of test we first make TNE or test base. The test molecule has many areas that can be reacted. So the tne gets sent to the main production facility who then takes cypionic acid under heat and pressure and reacts the cyp to the test. There are many carboxylic acids that can be used. Proprionic acid makes test prop. The process of hooking an organic,carboxylic acid up to anything is called esterification.ALL of these compounds are the same except for the length and design of the carbon chain. They all look like this c-c-c-c-o=oh. So it can be like decoanate with 20 carbons or proprionate with 3 carbons.The spot where you see that double bond is very weak and that is where the test molecule hooks up.
OK, so we made test cyp! Now this is just the powder.
To actually make the test in oil we simply looked around for ...of course the cheapest oil but with a good fatty acid profile. We chose seasame oil and dumped the powder into hot oil at 200F and under pressure. If you remember Charles and Boyle's law you can see that it takes less heat if it is under pressure. As an added antibacterial in case of contamination we also added .5% cholorbutanol. Today homebrewers use Benzyl Alcohol
OK now part 2..the amps. We bought the amps and all the writing was etched into the glass and dyed yellow.Pretty cool! BUT as usual to cut costs we went to plain amps and put a paper label on it. The use of an amp would ensure longer shelf life,or so we thought. You know...everybody makes it in amps right? I mean there wern't a lot of uses for the stuff to make it in 10 ml vials. We already had an uphill climb changing the ester from E to C. No need to rock the boat any further. So the amps came with a small hole in the bottom. We lined them up on an assembly line type automation and hung them upside down. The hole would easily take and 18g pin,so we loaded them with an automatic 1cc injection. Remember now 1 cc of oil oil at 200F takes up more volume than 1cc of oil at 40F.Also remember that for our puposes 1ml=1cc. So when we say 1cc, we mean at the "standard temp" in chemisty, which is 60F. So we fill the amps using a conversion of 200F to 60F.
After the amps were filled they passed thru a liquid glass box that dabbed some glass over the hole in the bottom and then the amps were chilled and there you have it.
Now for the youtube vid...when you pop an amp there is a huge possibility that you get micronized glass particles in your gear. You can see why you wouldn't want to inject a bit of glass! Now my big brother shot ..hmmm maybe ten million amps with no problem..lol.But..the problem is there.It is real!
As bodybuiding became popular ,test would fly out of our plant. One bodybuilder guy called us and bitched up a storm. He said he has to crack 5 amps per week and was tired of it. The pressure mounted to stop amps and make the simple...very simple 10 ml vials.Old traditions die hard, but things do change.Even today there are folks who swear by amps! I guess it is just like guys who love 1955 Chevys,57's,Road Runners etc!
