Started a new job today

I started a new job today. It's not really "new" though because I did it for 12 years before I started driving for a living which was 16 years ago.I went back with my old roofing company.I was a much younger man back then & I felt every bit of that today. It's a lot harder than sitting in an air conditioned car.lol.It only felt like 102° today as opposed to the 120° over the weekend.I knew today would be rough.Tomorrow will probably be worse but it will get better in time.I've always liked working with my hands & working for a car service is one of the most unfulfilling, thankless jobs there are.
I get up at 4am now.Have coffee, check emails, fuck around til 5 then lift weights from 5 to 6:30.Into work by 7am.I didn't do any cardio today but I don't think I needed it.Running up & down ladders all day qualifies as cardio.I was all gung-ho the first few hours in then the sun felt like it hit me like a sledgehammer.
I am beat the fuck up but I have to make this work for a little while at least until I find something better. The pay is 3x's what I was making driving. There's no money to be made driving anymore thanks to Uber undercutting everyone & putting car services out of business. So here I am 47 years old doing what I did when I was 18-30.

I did construction for a bit. Plumbing and Lining... I hated getting on the corners of multiple story roofs. Hanging there bro, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate...

Lol, if we lived near one another I'd show up with my tank top tied at the navel, some short shorts and construction boots and knee high socks and bring you lunch and a jug of water just to fuck with you lol.

I hear ya brother! I ho everyone works out well for you, and I'm sure it will. There's a lot of pride working with your hands all day, even in the heat. I do that myself. I'm not a roofer, but I do maintenance in a plant where the ambient air temperature in the plant is 120-130 degrees during the summer months. Glad to see you ma,ing a lot more money brother, and trust me it'll just make you a stronger, badder mother fucker. You may end up loving it, and wanting to stay. I actually love my job

I feel your pain bro, I'm in the same boat!! The transportation and manufacturing industries has taken a huge hit here too!! I just got laid off from my employer of 12 years along with 856 workers and 73 supervisors. In todays world its best to be very versatile and to have many skill sets. Construction and demolition have always been my fallbacks. Demolition is my best friend!! Love fucking shit up with a 20lb sledgehammer and a 40lb spud bar

Thanks Rick,It was a little better today.I had to keep throwing cold water over my head, but I feel like I'm already getting used to it again. This heat ain't no joke.On the plus side I got more of a tan in these two days than the whole Summer combined. One of my co-workers today asked if I lifted weights.I said "yup five days a weeks 60-90 min a day before work, cause I sure as hell won't do it after" It's cool to have your hard work noticed. :)

Yeah the transportation biz is hurting all over bro. That sucks so bad you got laid off.I agree it's good to have different skill-sets in place.I started as a mason's helper when I was 14 years old & have had some part in house construction ever since. My only two weaknesses are plumping & electrical work.I've done just about everything else.

I used to do demolition. It's a great stress reliever!
