How does grounding help with stress and anxiety?

I've started to notice that my anxiety levels are off the charts, especially after a long day at the computer. Grounding is said to help lower cortisol levels and relax, but I can't find a clear explanation of exactly how it works anywhere. Has anyone tried practicing it yet? How real the changes feel, and what are some easy ways to grounding for those who live in the city? I wonder if this could replace meditation or other relaxation techniques.
 
I’ve been looking for a long time for a normal resource that explains in detail what grounding is and why it’s useful. Everywhere either water or just superficial information. I decided to give it a try: I started walking barefoot, reduced the influence of gadgets before bedtime, and started spending more time in nature. After a few weeks, I realized that I was falling asleep faster and reacting more calmly to stress. I didn't expect that such a simple thing could have such an effect.
